Summer Fun – Rhode Island
July 30, 2023
This summer I wanted to make sure we spent as much time together as a family as we could. In the last two summers Alonzo has been deployed and it was tough for me to get the boys out on my own.
Prior to moving to Colorado Springs, Alonzo attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI. Neither of us had ever been been to Rhode Island prior to him being stationed there. When we visited the area to look for a home, we were amazed by it’s beauty. The views of the ocean, the landscape, the food, the culture, was something we hadn’t experienced. We spent two years there and I was deeply saddened to leave. I had built incredible friendships there but will last a lifetime.
We decided to take a trip back to the island with my dad and stepmom this July. We stayed in a rental right in our old neighborhood. You can find the tour of our rental HERE. It was a beautiful house and a great space for all of us to share. The boys loved being with their grandparents so it was so nice to share that time with them.
I was able to see most of my dear friends while we were there. One thing Alonzo and I miss about Rhode Island is the food!
Here are some of favorite spots to eat/cocktail:
Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar
This is one of my favorite places to have dinner. It is a must when visiting the area. Our friends, Jenn and Matt and their sweet daughter always take us to dinner here. We have such great memories here. We’ve taken all of our family and friends that have visited here as well. They have a great happy hour as well.
The Mooring
This gem is located right on the wharf in downtown Newport. This is the perfect spot for any meal! I love their burger and salads!
Castle Hill (the Lawn)
The lawn at Castle Hill is just a vibe. Let’s be honest the views in Newport are just unbelievable! But there’s nothing like getting a front row seat to the gorgeous sunset and yachts passing by as you sip on our your favorite drink.
Gansett Wraps
Gansett Wraps is one of my favorite lunch spots in Middletown. They’re homemade pita chips and hummus I used to eat but the pound! My favorite wrap is the Athena!
Pasta Beach
I don’t know where to start with Pasta beach. There is really nothing on the menu that isn’t absolutely DELICIOUS. Try any of the pizzas, you won’t be disappointed.
Clementine’s Ice Cream
Clementine’s is just the sweetest ice cream shop! My first job was at Honey Hut Ice Cream Shoppe in Cleveland, OH. Ice cream will be my favorite sweet treat. When I realized I lived just blocks away from this gem I was hooked. My two favorite flavors are the oatmeal cookie and blackberry. I’ve had them all though, so go for it!
This trip was so good for the soul. I have so many incredible memories in this little town I knew nothing about. If you’ve never been to Rhode Island, definitely consider it for your next summer vacation! You will not be disappointed.
xoxo,
B
